Students must be interested in societal communication, current affairs and the way media works and is managed, as well as trends, people and activities from the world of politics.

Admission and enrolment

Applications for admission must be submitted through the Admission Portal. Candidates will be assessed based on their academic record and the admissions tests taken.

3. Double qualification

Abat Oliba CEU University is a pioneer in the methodology that allows students to combine two qualifications and gain two degrees in five years. The Degree in Political Science is taught in a blended learning format, allowing students to combine it with their Journalism studies.

This double qualification aims to train future journalism professionals who also have a solid knowledge of political science. With a theoretical and practical understanding of the subjects, they will be fully competent in both.

With this double degree, students will develop their journalistic production skills as well as their analytic faculties and entrepreneurial drive. They will become experts in the trends, people and activities from the world of politics and will acquire the necessary skills to professionally, efficiently and fairly manage public issues. All of this is taught in an internationally focused framework with internships in public institutions, NGOs and political parties or foundations.

- International Experience Coventry University is a knowledge and cultural exchange featuring international group work (Online International Learning), trips (short global experience study / field trip), Erasmus+ programmes and the possibility of dual qualifications.

5. Learn by doing

A new teaching method inspired by the learning by doing and flipped classroom models, where the student is the centre of the teaching model and the classroom becomes a generator of professional experiences.

• Editing of Aula News: students from the Degree in Journalism will manage the editing of this new online university newspaper.

6. Certificate in Data Journalism and Social Media

The Undergraduate Degree in Journalism includes the Certificate in Data Journalism and Social Media (24 ECTS on-site). Big data represents a major disruptive revolution in journalism. At the same time, social media have become new channels for communication with audiences.

This certificate offers students the chance to acquire the skills they need to be a part of this new data journalism and to play an active part in the latest communication trends.

The incorporation of dynamics inside and outside the classroom help students develop the skills necessary for their career. 

Digital Communication Week: conferences, meetings and debates on current questions about new technologies with experts who are leading the digital revolution.
GoliAds UAO CEU Awards: Advertising and PR students organise this contest, gala and awards ceremony every year, and it has become a reference point for both advertising agencies and the Journalism students themselves.
• UAO CEU is the headquarters of the 18-19 and 19-20 editions of the Festival Drac Novell International, the major event on the advertising and communication calendar. The University organises the event in collaboration with the Managerial Association of Advertising.

8. CEU ePlus skills programme

A teaching model based on practical, personalised education that links theory to professional practice through case studies and real experiences, workshops and practical seminars.

It includes visits to national and international companies and production centres through internships.

9. Progressive International Development

A new plan that encourages communication students to think internationally from their first year to their fourth.

INTERNSHIPS

In the final year of the degree, students will do an obligatory placement year, or internship, in businesses, offices or institutions in the student's preferred industry.

These practical training programmes, included in the course structure, allow students to apply and enhance what they've learned in the course while acquiring the professional skills that will make their future transition to the workplace much easier.

The work that each student will undertake during the programme will be mutually agreed between the tutor in the business and the Work Placement and Employment Service coordinator in charge of the internship.

Furthermore, students have an academic tutor who provides follow-up and evaluation of the internship to get the most possible out of the placement.

Price corresponding to the current credit distribution for the double degree in the 1st year, subject to possible modifications in credit distribution.

Tuition fees correspond, solely and exclusively, to the provision of teaching as part of the programme enrolled on, and this is the only service offered in exchange for the payment of those fees. By enrolling, the student accepts that decisions made by the competent authorities may, directly or indirectly, render it necessary to carry out teaching, tutoring, work placements or assessment tests either in person or via distance learning.

The student accepts that they remain obliged to pay any such fees in full even if, for reasons beyond the control of the University, some of the educational activities included in the degree cannot be carried out as initially provided for in the course guides at the beginning of the academic year. If restrictions are part in place, the University will provide the student with a guarantee that the activity will be rescheduled when possible, taking into consideration the interests of the student and any other applicable academic criteria.

RESERVE YOUR PLACE

Once you've been accepted on the course, you can reserve your place at Abat Oliba CEU University, which guarantees you a place on the course, before you pass the “selectivity” university entrance exam* or other entry requirements. You can do this by making a payment of €1500 (which will be deducted from the total price of the course).


*Reservation of your place will be effective exclusively for the ordinary examination period (June) of the Baccalaureate University Entrance exam. Candidates who do not pass the Baccalaureate University Entrance exam or other access requirements for similar studies in the ordinary period (June), and have paid the Place Reservation Fee, will have priority in the September enrolment if the University has places available in the degree course requested.


Cancelling your place after reservation: students have until 21 June to cancel their reserved place. This means you can book now and cancel if your circumstances change later on.**

PAYMENT METHODS

Once you have formalised reservation of your place, the remaining amount can be paid in the following ways:

  • One-off payment

    A one-off payment entitles you to a discount of 3% on tuition fees.

  • Payment by instalments

    5 instalments per year.

 

  • Monthly payments

    10 instalments with special 0% interest financing from CaixaBank. This also entitles students to a discount of 3% on tuition fees.

Quality and regulation 

STUDENT PROFILE

Students should have an interest in social communication, current affairs and the functioning of the media and their management, as well as movements, agents and activities of the political world. They must be able to express themselves orally and in writing, and analyse and diagnose problems and propose solutions. They should also have analytical, synthesising and group-related skills, a flair for comprehension and abstraction, be sociable, and have a broad view of the world and a perspective on its possible evolution.

Knowledge of another language (preferably English), as well as having an aptitude for communication, is of interest and a necessity.

OBJECTIVES

  • To be able to express oneself clearly and precisely in order to convey information effectively.
  • To gain in-depth knowledge of the techniques of searching, identifying, gathering and processing of information and to learn how to apply them in order to work with sources and write news reports that reflect current events and give them meaning.
  • To understand and be able to critically evaluate the present in order to be able to communicate events as truthfully as possible, as well as to have a cultural and historical framework that makes it possible to contextualise them, explain their background and causes or their foreseeable consequences.
  • To lead news projects, coordinate journalistic teams or direct media outlets.
  • To have sufficient knowledge of the most relevant concepts, categories, theories and aspects of the different branches of information-communication research.
  • To become a journalist of integrity who, in the professional practice of reporting, is mindful of the social responsibility of the media.
